Quebec Separatist Leader Pledges No Independence Referendum While Trump Is President
Parti Québécois leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon pledged that a PQ government would not hold an independence referendum while Donald Trump remains U.S. president, delaying any vote until after Trump's term ends in January 2029. He said the debate must not be "hijacked by the upheavals of American politics." The PQ currently leads polls ahead of Quebec's election, due by October 5, 2026.
