Labor and Coalition pass gambling ad curbs — but not the total ban Murphy wanted
Labor and the Coalition have struck a deal to pass the Interactive Gambling Amendment (Gambling Reform) Bill 2026, restricting wagering ads but not banning them. The deal comes 1,149 days after Peta Murphy's review recommended a total ban on inducements and wagering ads. Reforms — including stadium and jersey ad bans, a 'triple lock' for online ads, and an opt-out register — commence 1 January 2027.
