UNIFIL Reports Surging Cross-Border Fire in Lebanon Despite Ceasefire, Civilian Toll Mounts

UNIFIL reported on August 17 that an average of 137 projectiles per day struck Lebanon between August 5–16, peaking at 208 on August 15 and 185 on August 16. Eleven civilians died in Israeli air raids on August 15 alone. The cumulative death toll since March 2 has reached 4,346, even as a US-brokered June 26 ceasefire and seven rounds of talks have failed to halt the violence.
