Atlantic cold front to end 62-day drought in southern England

An Atlantic cold front expected overnight into 18 August 2026 will bring the first substantial rain to southern England since 16 June, when just 0.4mm fell at the Met Office's Wisley station. The site recorded 62 consecutive dry days — its longest on record. The front weakens as it moves south, leaving rainfall amounts uncertain.
