Penk stripped of all portfolios and will quit Parliament after failed leadership challenge

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon demoted Defence Minister Chris Penk from all portfolios after Penk launched a leadership challenge against him. Luxon survived a confidence vote at an urgent National caucus meeting, emerging with what he called a "united caucus." Penk later announced he will not contest his Kaipara ki Mahurangi seat at the upcoming election.
