Targeted Heist: Thieves Steal Four Antonello da Messina Panels from Sicilian Museum

On 15 August 2026 — Italy's Ferragosto holiday — thieves bypassed alarms and broke into a security display case at Messina's Museo Regionale Interdisciplinare, stealing four wood panels by 15th-century Renaissance master Antonello da Messina. The panels came from two distinct works. The museum director called them "le opere più importanti." Investigators are pursuing the case.
