Stanford categorically backs Luxon, rules out leadership bid

Education Minister Erica Stanford told reporters at Wellington Airport she "categorically supports" Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and is not interested in the leadership. The remarks, on 16 August, ended days of speculation after she initially declined to confirm confidence in Luxon following a failed challenge by former defence minister Chris Penk — Luxon's second confidence vote in four months. Stanford said she wants to remain Education Minister for nine years.
