Morocco blocks second mass Ceuta border crossing two weeks after 78,000 arrived and 100 died

Moroccan security forces detained 111 migrants near Fnideq, 3km from Ceuta's border, on 15 August 2026 — the second mass crossing attempt in a fortnight. On 31 July, roughly 78,000 migrants reached the Spanish enclave by sea in hours; 100 died. Ceuta's population is about 85,000. Both Spain and Morocco had reinforced security after detecting social-media calls for a repeat attempt.
