U.S. Courts to Disclose Federal Spyware Wiretap Authorizations Starting in 2029

The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts confirmed it will begin publicly tracking how often federal judges authorize spyware and hacking tools for wiretaps. The new "spyware/hacking" category debuts in the 2028 Wiretap Report, published in 2029. The FBI has used such techniques since at least 1998; no public count has existed. Senator Ron Wyden pressed for disclosure since 2017.
