Courts Will Soon Reveal How Often the FBI Uses Secret Spyware

Federal courts will start publicly reporting how often judges approve spyware and hacking tools for wiretaps — software that secretly monitors people's communications. The first count appears in the 2028 Wiretap Report, published in 2029. The FBI has used these methods since at least 1998 without any public tally. Senator Ron Wyden pushed for disclosure since 2017.
