
Brazilian police recover stolen Matisse engravings worth over R$1 million, detain three suspects
São Paulo Civil Police recovered eight Henri Matisse engravings on August 13, eight months after a daylight robbery at a São Paulo library. Valued at over R$1 million, the works were stolen in December 2025. Three suspects were detained. Police suspect the engravings may have already been sold during the months they were missing. Five Portinari works taken in the same heist remain unrecovered.
