Apple sends mercenary spyware alerts to users in 110 countries, its largest round yet

Apple has sent mercenary spyware attack notifications to users across 110 countries, the broadest geographic scope in its threat-notification program's history. The figure has climbed from 92 countries in April 2024 to 84 in December 2025 to 110 now. Citizen Lab's John Scott-Railton first surfaced the alerts. Apple also updated its notification UX and published a new support page detailing mitigation steps.
