Tauranga landslides inquiry extends public submissions deadline to 4 September

The Government Inquiry into the fatal Tauranga landslides has extended its public submissions deadline by three weeks to 4 September. The inquiry, chaired by former Supreme Court judge Sir Mark O'Regan, is investigating two landslides on 22 January 2026 that killed eight people — six at Mauao and two at Pāpāmoa. Evidence including drone footage, photos, and rain gauge data can be uploaded via the Department of Internal Affairs portal.
