RSF strikes five cities, assaults North Kordofan, and advances on Kurmuk in 48-hour Sudan offensive

On 12-13 August 2026, the RSF struck across Sudan on multiple fronts: drone attacks on five army-held cities hundreds of kilometres apart, a 250-vehicle ground assault on Jabra al-Sheikh in North Kordofan, and a coalition advance with SPLM-N into the strategic Ethiopian-border town of Kurmuk. The army repelled the Jabra al-Sheikh attack but began withdrawing from Kurmuk. Two were killed in el-Obeid.
