Midwest Storms Cut Power to 540,000, With Half of One Indiana Utility's Customers Dark

A derecho on August 11 with 100 mph gusts, followed by catastrophic flooding that dropped over 11 inches of rain on parts of Indiana, cut power to roughly 540,000 Midwest homes and businesses on August 13. Indiana's Nipsco utility lost service to over 55% of customers and warned restoration could take days. At least three deaths are linked to the storms.
