
Tomago takes Albanese government's metals-industry subsidies to nearly $7 billion
The $2.5 billion Tomago deal is the third heavy-industry rescue the Albanese government has bankrolled, after $2 billion for Rio Tinto's Boyne smelter in Queensland and $2.4 billion for Whyalla steelworks. Total: nearly $7 billion in public subsidies to keep domestic metals production alive — all conditional on decarbonisation.
