Former Guerrero Governor Ordered to Stand Trial Over 2014 Disappearance of 43 Ayotzinapa Students

On 12 August 2026, a federal judge ordered former Guerrero governor Ángel Aguirre to stand trial on forced disappearance and obstruction of justice charges tied to the 2014 disappearance of 43 Ayotzinapa students, and held him in a maximum security prison. He allegedly ordered destruction of surveillance tapes. Only 3 of the 43 students' remains have been identified.
