Cambridge Launches £20M Project to Grow Miniature Human Organs for Drug Testing
Cambridge has launched a £20 million Medical Research Council-funded hub to grow organoids — millimetre-scale human tissue clusters — from NHS patients' cells for drug testing. Over 90% of drugs that pass animal testing fail in human trials. The hub aims to build a standardised organoid library for academics and pharma companies, embedded in a UK government strategy to cut animal use.
