Motorola acknowledged that its Smart Feed app secretly inserted Amazon affiliate tracking codes on certain US devices, capturing a commission when users shopped through the Amazon app. The mechanism worked via a quick browser redirect that installed a tracking cookie each time users launched Amazon from the app drawer. Motorola called it unintended and disabled it through an over-the-air update.
