Single CAR-T Treatment Suppressed HIV for Nearly Two Years Without Drugs
A small trial showed that one infusion of genetically engineered T cells—a patient's own immune cells modified to attack HIV-infected cells directly—suppressed the virus for up to two years without antiretroviral medication. Two patients achieved sustained remission. Early results suggest the approach works best when patients start standard HIV treatment early. The findings were presented at the American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy meeting.
