
Original Xbox games come to PC as Microsoft blurs the console-PC line
Microsoft launched PC backward compatibility for original Xbox games on July 22, 2026, starting with four titles. Xbox VP Jason Ronald called it "the beginning of a broader effort to preserve Xbox games from the past and bring them to PC over time." The next-gen Project Helix console will also play PC games, suggesting platform boundaries are shifting from hardware-based to policy-based.
