Ex-CDC Officials: US Lacks Pandemic Readiness

Former CDC leaders Dan Jernigan and Debra Houry told The Guardian the US is unprepared for the next pandemic. About 80% of senior roles lack permanent appointees, and 25–30% of staff have been cut. Jernigan said plainly: "Are we ready? My answer is no." Houry called the agency's trajectory the "wrong direction."
