Former CDC Officials Warn US Is Not Ready for Next Pandemic

Former CDC officials Dan Jernigan and Debra Houry told The Guardian the US is unprepared for the next pandemic. Roughly 80% of senior leadership positions lack permanent appointees, and 25–30% of staff have been cut. Jernigan said: "Are we ready for the next big pandemic? My answer is no." Houry said the agency is "moving in the wrong direction."
