Burnham pledges to cut bus fares by up to a third
Reuters reported on 22 July 2026 that Prime Minister Andy Burnham pledged to cut single bus tickets by up to a third. The Guardian quoted him calling his a "cost-of-living government" that would always "show how we are going to pay for it." Bus fares outside London are set by metro mayors, not Whitehall — a complication for a former Greater Manchester mayor now in Downing Street.
