Prime Minister promises cheaper bus tickets

Reuters reported on 22 July 2026 that Prime Minister Andy Burnham promised to cut single bus ticket prices by up to a third. The Guardian quoted him calling his a "cost-of-living government" that would always "show how we are going to pay for it." Outside London, bus fares are set by local city-region mayors, not central government — tricky for a former Greater Manchester mayor now running the country.
