Seoul Prosecutors Seek Prison for Chef Over Unauthorized Ant Dessert
South Korean prosecutors want one year in prison and a 20 million won fine for a two-Michelin-starred chef who served dried ants in sorbet for about four years. Ants aren't among South Korea's ten approved edible insect species. The dish generated roughly 120 million won across 12,200 servings. Sentencing is set for September 2, 2026.
