South Korean Prosecutors Seek Prison for Michelin-Starred Chef Over Illegal Ant Dessert

South Korean prosecutors sought a one-year prison sentence and a 20 million won fine for the owner of a two-Michelin-starred Seoul restaurant that served dried ants in a sorbet for roughly four years. Ants are not among the 10 insect species South Korea approves as food. Roughly 12,200 servings generated about 120 million won. Sentencing is set for September 2, 2026.
