A March 2024 briefing told Immigration Minister Erica Stanford the $35 million Biometric Capability Upgrade was "achievable." Nine days later, her office received independent quality assurance reports stating reviewers doubted the project would "deliver at all" and questioned its continuation. The project was stopped in 2025.
