Starmer ally disputes Burnham's VAT cut funding plan

Darren Jones, Sir Keir Starmer's former right-hand man, has challenged Andy Burnham's plan to fund a VAT cut on household electricity by scrapping a digital ID scheme. Jones told the Financial Times the scheme was never funded, so cancelling it frees no real money. The VAT cut, a tax on goods and services, is confirmed for October.
