GM Settles $12.75M Lawsuit Over Sale of Driver Location Data

California authorities have secured a settlement with General Motors over its OnStar service. GM sold driving location data for hundreds of thousands of Californians to data brokers—LexisNexis and Verisk Analytics—without proper disclosure or ways for drivers to opt out, violating state privacy law. The automaker must stop selling connected vehicle data to brokers.
