
GM Pays $12.75M Over Illegal Sales of Driver Data to Data Brokers
California authorities secured a settlement with General Motors over OnStar data monetization. GM sold hundreds of thousands of Californians' location and driving information to LexisNexis Risk Solutions and Verisk Analytics without adequate disclosure or opt-out mechanisms, violating the California Consumer Privacy Act. The automaker must now cease all data broker sales tied to its connected vehicle service.
