Canvas Learning Platform Goes Offline After Cyberattack Hits 9,000 Schools

Instructure took Canvas, its widely used learning management system, offline on May 7 following a confirmed cyberattack by ShinyHunters, a financially motivated hacking group. The attackers exploited a vulnerability in Instructure's cloud infrastructure to access student records from up to 9,000 schools and universities globally. Compromised data includes student names, email addresses, student IDs, and private messages. The breach was disclosed May 1 and confirmed three days later.
