Hackers Access Student Data From 9,000 Schools in Canvas Breach
Instructure shut down Canvas, a widely used school software platform, after criminals broke in on May 7. The breach exposed personal information—names, emails, student ID numbers, and private messages—from roughly 9,000 schools and universities worldwide. The attackers exploited a weakness in the cloud system where the software is hosted. The company discovered the break-in on May 1 and confirmed it May 3.
