Skeleton in Westminster Abbey's Roman sarcophagus most likely a medieval abbot, expert says
A skeleton found in a Roman stone sarcophagus (stone coffin) at Westminster Abbey is most likely that of a medieval abbot (head of a monastery), according to consultant archaeologist Prof Warwick Rodwell. He favours Ælfwig, who died around 1020, over Wulfnoth, who died around 1049. Rodwell published his findings in the Journal of the British Archaeological Association.
