Sanders Bill Would Bar Federal Use of License Plate Readers

Sen. Bernie Sanders introduced the Ban Flock Act on Oct. 2, 2026, alongside Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Jeff Merkley. It would prohibit federal agencies from operating automatic license plate readers — cameras that log plates — and from using ALPR data held by local police and private firms. Despite the name, it applies to all ALPR systems.
