Sanders Introduces Bill to Bar Federal Use of License Plate Readers

Senator Bernie Sanders introduced the Ban Flock Act on Oct. 2, 2026, with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Jeff Merkley. The proposal would bar federal agencies from using automatic license plate readers and from accessing ALPR data held by local police and private firms. Despite its name, the text covers all ALPR systems.
