21 States Challenge EPA Repeal of Power Plant Greenhouse Gas Rules

Twenty-one states led by New York sued the Trump administration Oct. 1, 2026, asking D.C. Circuit to overturn EPA's repeal of greenhouse gas limits, or heat-trapping pollution, for coal- and gas-fired power plants. The states call the repeal arbitrary for ignoring health and climate costs. Decision could define EPA's duty to regulate plants producing a quarter of U.S. carbon dioxide.
