21 States Sue to Bring Back Power Plant Pollution Limits

Twenty-one states led by New York sued the Trump administration Oct. 1, 2026, asking Washington appeals court to restore EPA heat-trapping pollution limits, like a blanket around Earth, for coal- and gas-burning power plants. The states say dropping rules ignores health and climate harm. Ruling could decide if environmental agency must limit plants making one-quarter of U.S. carbon dioxide.
