Hungary Parliament Lifts Prime Minister's Immunity in Phone Theft Case

Hungary's parliament voted 139-0 on Sept. 28 to remove Prime Minister Peter Magyar's immunity from prosecution, opening a theft investigation. Prosecutors allege Magyar seized a phone from a man filming him at a Budapest nightclub in June 2024 and threw it in the Danube. Magyar asked for the lift to clear his name. Fidesz boycotted.
