Hungary Lets Investigators Look Into Leader Over Phone Incident

Hungary's parliament voted 139-0 on Sept. 28 to lift Prime Minister Peter Magyar's legal protection, allowing a theft inquiry. Prosecutors say he grabbed a phone from a man filming him at a Budapest nightclub in June 2024 and tossed it into the Danube River. Magyar says he requested the vote to prove his innocence. Fidesz boycotted the vote.
