OpenAI is shelving GPT-6.1 Astra, its system for independently browsing the web that was set for October in ChatGPT and Codex, over safety concerns. Safety systems head Saachi Jain said it 'didn't quite meet the bar' of company standards, pointing to problems with scope, authorization and user communication. The Wall Street Journal first reported the decision.
