Labour pledges 10 percent student loan cut, wipes loans under $2,000

Labour leader Chris Hipkins announced the student loan policy at the party's campaign launch at the Due Drop Centre in Manukau, Auckland, on 27 September 2026. He told about 600 supporters Labour would cut 10 percent off the balance for some borrowers, and clear loans of $2,000 or less in full, RNZ reported.
