PBO says day-to-day budget balance slips to 2029-30

Parliamentary Budget Officer Annette Ryan says Ottawa will not balance its operating budget — day-to-day spending — until 2029-30. The 2025 budget promised 2028-29. Prime Minister Mark Carney told Toronto's Canada Investment Summit the government would beat that by a year. The PBO gives independent analysis to Parliament.
