Indonesia's Peatland Fires Spread Toxic Haze Across Four Nations

Toxic haze from Indonesia's peatland fires has spread across Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, and Indonesia itself — the worst transboundary haze crisis in over a decade. Air quality hit an AQI (Air Quality Index) of 1,000 in parts of Indonesia. A "Super El Niño" and palm oil land clearing drove the fires, releasing 58 million tonnes of carbon. Two volunteer firefighters have died.
