Indonesia's Forest Fires Send Dangerous Smog Across Four Countries

Thick, dangerous smog from Indonesia's peatland fires has spread across Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, and Indonesia — the worst in over a decade. Air pollution hit 1,000 on a 0–500 scale used to measure how safe air is to breathe. A rare severe drought and palm oil farming drove the fires, releasing 58 million tonnes of carbon. Two volunteer firefighters have died.
