Weekend Catch-Up Sleep May Cut Hypertension Risk by Up to 9%, Study Suggests

A seven-year study of 40,727 South Korean adults found that moderate weekend catch-up sleep — about one hour and 37 minutes extra — lowered high blood pressure risk by up to 9%. Author Nawon Lee of Korea University warned that excessive lie-ins disrupt circadian rhythms and may cancel the benefit. The findings, presented in Munich on August 31, 2026, have not yet been peer-reviewed.
