Engineering drawings obtained by The New York Times reveal eight more steel columns at 235 East 42nd Street — the former Pfizer headquarters — lacked adequate reinforcement, beyond the two that buckled on July 7, 2026, forcing evacuations. The building was being converted into 1,600 apartments. The discovery widens the known scope of structural problems, raising concerns that fixes targeted only columns that already failed — not all those at risk.
