Ottawa's first-quarter deficit shrinks to $370-million

Finance Department figures show Ottawa ran a $370-million deficit in April-to-June 2026-27, down sharply from $6.28-billion a year earlier. Revenue rose about 10 per cent to $132.64-billion; program spending grew 4.3 per cent to $117.16-billion. Public debt charges — interest on what the government owes — climbed 6.1 per cent to $14.61-billion.
