Federal government nearly breaks even in early 2026-27

Ottawa spent about $370-million more than it took in from April to June 2026-27 — a big drop from the $6.28-billion shortfall a year earlier. Income rose nearly 10 per cent to $132.64-billion. Spending grew 4.3 per cent to $117.16-billion. Interest payments on the government's debt rose 6.1 per cent to $14.61-billion.
