Sydney Library Restores Pulled Book Citing Collection Independence Law

Waverley library in Sydney returned "How to Sell a Genocide" — a critique of US media coverage of Gaza — to shelves on August 28, 2026, after the State Library of New South Wales cited 2026 amendments to the Library Act reinforcing collection independence. The council had pulled the book earlier in August following a complaint reportedly from a Bondi terror attack survivor. A petition with nearly 2,500 signatures preceded reinstatement.
